Avalon Podiatry Drill

avalon drill3

Repairs Only in consultation with several practicing podiatrists, has developed the Avalon Podiatry Drill. Following many years in the repair industry, we have come to know the good and bad points of many podiatry drills. By including the best design features and dis-regarding the worst, we have developed the Avalon dust extraction drill. The drill will be available directly from ourselves.

The Price including GST and delivery (within Australia) is $1,999.

Major features-
Twin filter design. A conventional bag type filter is used to capture the larger dust and debris. A second filter (activated carbon) is used to capture micron sized particles as well as to filter out odours. Both filters are user replacable. The second filter also captures carbon and copper particles which are by-products from the vacuum motor. In most brands of drill, these components are normally splattered around inside the main unit and also into the air you and your patients breathe. If this debris is not removed from the drill on a regular basis, it can cause premature failure of the machine.

Low noise, High throughput vacuum system. A very efficient 'straight through' vacuum system has been employed. This means that the vacuum extraction is accomplished with less effort, and as a result, less noise and greatly increased vacuum motor life expectancy. The volume of air and dust extracted, when measured at the tip of the handpiece, is around 10% more than most other machines on the market.

Filter Bag Full indicator light. A front panel LED indicates when the bag filter needs replacing. This indicator remains accurate no matter what vacuum setting the operator is using.

Auto-claveable handpiece. The entire handpice is auto-claveable, and can be removed from the vacuum hose and wiring in about 3 seconds.

Rotating vacuum coupling. The handpiece can be rotated up to 270 degrees without twisting the vacuum hose. This means that the operator has more freedom of movement during operation.

Highly flexible, Long life vacuum hose.

High capacity filter bag.

Programmable memory locations. Operators can store their favorite settings in 3 memory locations. The stored parameters are drill rotation direction, drill speed (1,000 to 33,000 rpm) and vacuum strength (0 to 99%).

Auto storage and recall of last used settings. When the machine is switched off, the last used settings are stored in a non-volatile memory device (no back-up batteries or capacitors used). Upon switch on, the last used settings are restored.

Mains supply isolation. The front panel 'on-off' switch completely isolates the 240v AC supply from the machine. Some brands require 'keep alive' power for memory retention and stand-by modes. This has the effect wasting electricity as well as leaving the equipment vulnerable to power surges and spikes (lightning etc.) during times when the drill is not being used.

High quality, 4 ball bearing handpiece. This is an industry standard 'E' type handpiece. It has been around for a long time and has excellent life expectancy. The nose piece contains 2 ball bearings for strength and balance, while the motor has also 2 ball bearings. All bearings are replaceable and the design is such that they can be replaced very quickly. Most other designs do not have replaceable motor bearings, forcing the replacement of the entire motor which can cost around $400.

ROHS. All materials used in the Avalon drill (where possible) have been selected so as to comply with ROHS requirements.

Warranty. The Avalon drill has a 2 year parts and labour warranty. If a defect should become evident within the first 3 months from purchase, we will replace the entire drill with a new one. This warranty does not cover problems caused by misuse or neglect or those which result from lack of routine maintenance or due care.

Handpiece mounted on-off switch.

Handpiece parking bay with sensor.

Over-design strategy. The Avalon Drill has been designed to last. We have selected components throughout the machine which significantly exceed the minimum required. For example- If a rating of 1 amp for a power supply is called for, we have included a 2 amp rating. This slightly increases the cost of the product, but greatly increases the service life of the machine.

Twist-lock chuck. Experience has shown us that the twist-lock collet chuck is the most reliable. The cutting tool is held more firmly and centrally, providing less vibration and greater bearing life. Also, this type of chuck is far more tolerant of dust ingress.

Pure DC handpiece motor with speed regulation.

Suction nozzle design. A concentic dust take-up nozzle ensures that dust is collected equally from all angles. The dust and air is directed, at the earliest possible point, straight into the vacuum hose. This design greatly increases the life of the handpiece because the dust is not drawn up into the handpiece shroud to contaminate the bearings and motor (as is the case with some other designs).

Concealed electrical wiring. The electrical wiring connecting the base unit to the hanpiece is routed through the vacuum hose, increasing durability and enhancing appearance.

Australian made. The Avalon Drill is manufactured in Australia using local and imported components. All components are sourced from well known and reputable supppliers. The component manufacturers we have selected are likely to stay in business for a long time, ensuring ongoing parts availability.
